Cracking JEE Advanced and securing a rank under 1000 requires more than just hard work. You need the right strategy, the right study material, and consistent practice.
One of the biggest mistakes students make during their preparation is using too many books or choosing the wrong ones. The right books can build strong concepts and improve your problem-solving skills significantly.
In this guide, I will share the best books for JEE Advanced 2027 preparation, based on my own experience. I secured All India Rank 764 in JEE Advanced 2023, and the resources mentioned below played an important role in my journey.

1. HC Verma – Concepts of Physics (Vol 1 & 2)
This is one of the best beginner-friendly physics books for JEE preparation.
If you are doing self-study, starting your theory from HC Verma is an excellent choice.
However, if you are already enrolled in a coaching institute and understand theory through lectures, you can skip the theory and start with Cengage.
The exercise questions in HC Verma are extremely useful. They gradually increase in difficulty and help strengthen conceptual clarity.
Even if you skip the theory, solving the exercises is highly recommended.
2. Cengage Physics for JEE Advanced
The Cengage Physics series can become the core resource of your physics preparation.
The book contains:
Detailed theory
Numerous solved examples
Large sets of practice problems
The solved examples are particularly helpful because they show different approaches to solving similar problems.
At the end of each chapter, you will find many questions. Do not try to solve all of them.
Instead:
Solve 30–40 unique single correct questions
Then move to advanced pattern questions such as:

3. Physics Galaxy or DC Pandey (Alternative to Cengage)
Apart from Cengage, two other good physics series are:
Physics Galaxy
DC Pandey
I personally used Cengage, but students can check which one suits them better.
If you are interested in Physics Olympiad preparation, Physics Galaxy is particularly useful.
4. 700+ Advanced Illustrations in Physics
This is a must-do book for serious JEE Advanced aspirants.
After completing a chapter from your main physics book, solve the advanced illustrations from this book.
These problems help develop higher-level thinking and advanced problem-solving ability.

5. IE Irodov – Problems in General Physics
This is one of the most challenging physics problem books.
However, you should not attempt every question.

Chemistry preparation requires a balance between conceptual theory and problem practice.
Below are the most useful books for each section.
Physical Chemistry Books
NCERT Chemistry (Class 11 & 12)
NCERT is an excellent starting point for building fundamental concepts in physical chemistry.
The explanations are clear and beginner-friendly, making it an ideal foundation before moving to advanced books.
Cengage Physical Chemistry
Cengage provides complete theory required for JEE Advanced along with many solved examples.
The solved examples help students understand problem-solving approaches step by step.
Do not attempt every question.
Focus on:

N Avasthi – Physical Chemistry
This is one of the best problem-solving books for physical chemistry.
The questions are divided into different levels.
Level 1 contains many problems, some of which are repetitive. Avoid solving too many similar problems.
Focus on unique questions, then move to Level 2 or Neeraj Kumar.
Neeraj Kumar – Advanced Problems in Physical Chemistry
This book contains high-level problems for advanced preparation.
After completing a good portion of N Avasthi, you can use Neeraj Kumar to further strengthen your problem-solving ability.
Inorganic Chemistry Books
NCERT Chemistry Books for JEE Advanced(Class 11 & 12)
For inorganic chemistry, NCERT is the most important book.
Many JEE Advanced questions are directly based on NCERT lines, reactions, and concepts.
Regular revision of NCERT is extremely important.
JD Lee Concise (Relevant Sections)
JD Lee helps build deeper theoretical understanding of inorganic chemistry beyond NCERT.
However, only the relevant portions for JEE Advanced should be studied.
Super Problems in Inorganic Chemistry – Piyush Maheshwari
