Book Recommendations for JEE Advanced (Rank Under 1000)

Cracking JEE Advanced and securing a rank under 1000 is no easy feat. It requires not just dedication but also the right set of resources. Choosing the best books for preparation can make a significant difference in your journey. In today's blog I will share the best books you can do for your JEE preparation based on my own experience, I got an All India Rank of 764 in JEE 2023.

Disclaimer: The books listed below are ordered in the sequence you should study them. Start with the basics before moving on to advanced problem-solving.

Physics

Physics demands deep conceptual understanding and strong problem-solving skills. The following books will be instrumental in strengthening your grasp:

  1. HC Verma (Concepts of Physics Vol 1 & 2) – Essential for building a strong conceptual foundation in physics. If you are doing self study, then starting theory from this book is the best idea, if you are already enrolled in a coaching, and you understand the major theory through lectures, then there is no need for you to read HC Verma, you can start with cengage directly. Note: HC Verma has a very good set of exercise questions that increase in difficulty as you go closer to the end of the exercise, so attempting these questions is a good idea, even if you did not study theory from HC Verma, you can still do these questions.

  2. Cengage (Physics for JEE Advanced) – A comprehensive resource, that becomes the pillar of your JEE preparation, it contains all the theory you need for JEE Advanced, it also has so many solved examples that you can read how to solve a similar type of problem in multiple ways. It is very good for building your question solving ability, once you are done reading the theory and solved examples, the large set of questions at the back can be intimidating, don't try to solve them all, try to solve 30-40 unique single correct ones, and then move on to the advanced pattern questions like Multiple choice correct, Match the following, and numerical.

  3. Physics Galaxy or DC Pandey (Optional to Cengage) – The two other book series apart from cengage that you can use, cengage is the one I personally used, but you can go to a book store and see the other two as well and see which one fits you the best. If you want to target the physics olympiad, then physics galaxy is the best choice.

  4. 700+ Advanced Illustrations in Physics – A must do book for JEE Advanced, whenever you complete any chapter from your main reference book, do the advanced illustrations from 700+ advanced illustrations as well. ( If you don't want to buy the book, you can refer to the Physics Galaxy Youtube channel, all of the advanced illustrations are uploaded there)

  5. IE Irodov (Problems in General Physics) - One of the hardest problem solving books in the field of JEE Physics, don't solve every single question, instead solve the selected questions that are necessary for JEE Advanced, Access the resources page of our website to access a list of all the relevant questions picked by IITians.

Chemistry

Chemistry requires a balance between theory and problem-solving. Here are the best books for each section.

Physical Chemistry

  1. NCERT Chemistry (Class 11 & 12) – Important to build your concepts, very well written and beginner friendly book, use it to build your fundamentals

  2. Cengage Physical Chemistry – A highly detailed book containing all the theory needed for JEE Advanced, also lots of solved examples to read and chapter end questions to solve, don't get caught in the trap of trying to do them all, do a few questions of each type and move on quick, try to get more of the more difficult JEE Advanced pattern questions done.

  3. N Avasthi (Physical Chemistry) – Excellent for building a strong foundation in physical chemistry. It is best suited for students who are starting their preparation and looking to develop a strong base in problem-solving, it contains level wise segregations, and level 1 contains many problems out of which some are repetitive, make sure not to get caught in the trap of solving the same type of questions, rather solve only the unique questions and move on to either level 2 or Neeraj Kumar

  4. Neeraj Kumar (Advanced Problems in Physical Chemistry) – A great resource for tackling high-level and advanced problem sets, once you have done N Avasthi to a good level, start solving Neeraj Kumar.

Inorganic Chemistry

  1. NCERT Chemistry (Class 11 & 12) – The best book for inorganic chemistry, as JEE questions are often directly based on it.

  2. JD Lee Concise (Relevant Portions for JEE Advanced) – Excellent for understanding the theoretical aspects of inorganic chemistry beyond NCERT. Very important

  3. Super Problems in Inorganic Chemistry by Piyush Maheshwari – A good source of problems of inorganic chemistry that are relevant for JEE advanced

Organic Chemistry

  1. Organic Chemistry (Mainly Through Lectures) – Rather than relying solely on books, conceptual clarity through lectures is highly recommended.

  2. MS Chouhan Advanced Problems in Organic Chemistry – One of the best books for problem-solving in organic chemistry. (Himanshu Pandey can be used as an alternative, but I personally used MS Chouhan)

  3. NCERT Chemistry (Class 11 & 12) – NCERT serves as a database for all named reactions and important compound common names. Thorough reading and understanding of all mechanisms and reactions presented in NCERT are crucial for mastering organic chemistry. Many direct and concept-based questions in JEE Advanced originate from these sections, making NCERT an indispensable resource.

Mathematics

Mathematics is all about problem-solving and conceptual depth. These books are highly recommended:

  1. Cengage/Arihant Series – The major book series which will be the foundation of your JEE Advanced preparation, even completing this thoroughly is enough to get a great score in JEE Advanced, you don't really need to do everything that is mentioned below, it is just an add on if you wish.

  2. Black Book (Advanced Problems in Mathematics for JEE Advanced by Vikas Gupta) – .

  3. Yellow Book (Algebra)

  4. Pink Book (Coordinate Geometry and Conic Sections)

  5. A Das Gupta (Problems Plus in IIT Mathematics) – A classic book known for its challenging problems and high-level conceptual questions.

Conclusion

The above books, when used strategically, can significantly enhance your JEE Advanced preparation. They are books that have been personally used by me and even when I didn't use the book myself I took various reviews from my other friends to verify it, so you can trust and follow this book list without any hesitation. KEEP STRIVING
